James Plante Education and Inspiration

James Plante's father suffered from complications that are related to polycystic kidney disease. His father had died from complications of organ transplantation. Plante was inspired to study preventative health. His father's death was a wakeup call, not only for Plante's own welfare but for other people. It was this unfortunate tragedy that made Mr. Plante create this legacy for his father by creating a company that could provide genetic testing and offer personalized medicine for everyone no matter what their financial situation. James Plante earned his B.S. degree in electrical engineering at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale Campus.

Other Organizations

Pathway Genomics is not the only company that Plante has founded. He has also created SmartDrive Systems in 2004 and was their CEO until 2008. Plante started up The Founders Fund, Edelson Technology Partners, and Western Technology Investment and used these companies to help fund Pathway Genomics when it was getting started.

Contributions

Last year, because of his work with genetics testing James Plante was appointed a part of the Industry Trade Advisory Committee (ITAC) by both the US Secretary of Trade and the US Secretary of Trade. Plante has testing for different types of cancers to see if people who are genetically inclined to get it are at a high risk. He has also developed prescreening testing for carrier status in other diseases.
